Owen-Glass was always meant to strictly be a recording project–that is, no live shows were expected to take place. Songs were written by Kelly Wayne Conley so he might marry his passions for music and the ideas of liberty, and he enrolled David Beck to produce the record, so the music would be well-served by the quality of the recording. The studio was filled with hand-selected collaborators to capture the best version of each song possible in just a few days [the bulk of The Rope & the Rabbit was tracked in only 4 days]. And, aside from some finishing touches and an online release of the record, that was expected to be the end of it.
But then, something unexpected happened: the album enjoyed a warm reception from the music media, music nerds from every end of the spectrum, and, from another band–friends from the same small Texas town–who at the time, was wowing audiences with their live psychedelic improvisational performances across the Texas music market–Palace Saints.
Weary from the grind of a promotional tour announcing the release of their first studio album, Fishtank Bizarre, Palace Saints, with their shared lead guitarist Cole Humphrey, were looking for fresh inspiration; While the founding members of Owen-Glass were in need of experienced musicians who could dedicate themselves to their increasingly popular project. With resources and friendships in common, the synergies between the two projects were difficult to ignore.
So, in January of 2020, Owen-Glass and the Palace Saints was born.
With a renewed focus on developing this combined project into a well-rounded band within the four walls of the studio, online and on stage, the founding members of Owen-Glass (Kelly Wayne Conley, Cole Humphrey, Eric Ostberg, and Anthony Earl) and the long-running Palace Saints (Kyle Monty, Cole Humphrey, Alex Paredes, and Cole Means) have come together as a combined act, bridging stylistic divides to find a new, yet familiar sound which fans of both projects will surely support.
While they continue work on their first studio album since the merger, they will be out-and-about, playing fan favorites from both bands’ catalogues–and just maybe testing out some new songs here and there.
